The Conceptual Librarian

The shape of things to come

Filed under: Uncategorized — conceptlib @ 4:46 pm

Under the cover of indifference, librarians have been dumping books by the thousand – clearing the decks for a purely technology driven future in which that fabulously renewable resource we call paper will have become obsolete.

Shelves have been scrapped to make way for computers which in turn will be replaced by comfortable lounge furniture where students can lie back and enjoy everything on their hand held devices whilst sipping on a latte.

Postscript

Q: How many librarians does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: Surely librarianship isn’t a prerequisite. (Any goof can do it.)

Q: How many librarians does it take to run the information commons of the future?

A: Ditto. (Qualifications in catering and coffee service would be an advantage.)

  1. Oh, those photos just makes me queasy. The local libraries in my area will have a last chance books sale or a freebie table.

There is always a bookaholic who will take a book home to be saved from the dumpster.
